And that about sums up United at the moment. I took this shot w hen I ran regional flights for United , this was a common sight in some places such as...Newark, O’Hare, or any reasonably sized hub of theirs. Still is I would imagine.

Personally I like the stuff they didn’t bother to rebrand from Continental to United (as is the case with the cart in the back there). Personally I found Continental a much better airline than what we ended up with in the merger.

Agreed. BUT, keep in mind after the merger, Continental operated the background services.....so they willingly went this direction. United had a great new computer system in place a year before the merger but the Continental folks taking over the offices said, “Nope! That’s not our stuff so out it goes!” and they went back to lots of paper forms.....so Today’s United is most likely the result of the post-merger Continental management.

What I keep thinking about is how much Boeing must be hurting right now with all those 737 MAX aircraft parked in the employee parking lots and how their customers now probably don’t need them. A poetic blend of f***up and bad timing for Boeing.

Oh, they need them. American wants them back this winter. SWA is totally committed to them. They are indeed 20% less to run than a regular 737ng, flown it myself. Even if gas is cheap, they are still burning enough to make a big difference to the bottom line. Gas is still more expensive than payroll.

Wow, look at all that FOD...

B ack to airlines though , it sucks that the big American carriers (such as Delta and United) are burning through upwards of $20 million a day due to this. Given how much inflation has driven up costs of everything else except ticket prices on passenger flights, I’m curious to see what they long-term ramifications will be. I bet prices go way up in the next year or so.

I did see the United CEO mention the other day that they aren’t expecting normal operations to be fully back until 2024. Running at a loss in the tens of billions annually can’t be sustainable for 3+ years.

And yes, empty bag carts are a common occurrence these days. Hell, Alaska and Southwest have even started mothballing planes and leaving them at our RON spots. Cheaper to store them and pay for daily parking than to fly them back and forth at 15% capacity.
